Denise Otero, LMHC
Welcome, my name is Denise Otero and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH12283) in Florida. I graduated from NOVA Southeastern University in 2009. I have been practicing psychotherapy since that time. As an integrative therapist, my approach draws upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I hope to have the opportunity to work with you, build respect, trust, and positive change. The journey to self-discovery is a collaborative relationship that I approach with genuine interest, acceptance and compassion. I believe that therapy should address the person as a whole including aspects of mental, physical and spiritual well-being. I believe all clients are unique and my therapeutic approach is adaptive to each individual’s situation.
I specialize in treating a broad range of clinical issues including, but not limited to anger management, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, emotional dysregulation, family counseling, grief and loss, life transitions, marital and relationship counseling, self-image, trauma, and work/life balance. I have a passion working with clients experiencing challenges related to alcohol use and supporting them as they recover. I work with the client and their support system as they heal from the addiction and make better choices in life. In the past, I have worked in a correctional setting, outpatient counseling, and inpatient substance abuse treatment centers.
In addition to more traditional “talk therapy”, I have received some training in EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing – that involves releasing cognitive or emotional blocks. I am currently working toward becoming Certified in EMDR. I have received training in Positive-Feeling-State-Addiction Protocol Therapy which focuses on using EMDR to treat behavioral and substance addictions.
I would encourage you to be brave and take that first step to a healthier and more hopeful you. Please reach out to me today. It would be my privilege to walk this journey with you. There is hope. There is healing. Together we’ll get there.
